INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to use wildcard characters (*) in a subject line filter in Sybari Antigen.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use wildcard characters in a filter to help identify specific words or phrases that appear in the subject line of an e-mail message. The following table provides examples of how to use a wildcard character in a filter:
FilterFilter results
target phraseMessages that contain only target phrase in the subject line
*target phraseMessages that contain target phrase in the subject line or that contain any phrase that ends with target phrase in the subject line
*target phrase*Messages that contain target phrase anywhere in the subject line
When you use wildcard characters, use spaces between the words to search for individual words. If you use spaces, the filter will not identify words that include the word that you indicate in the filter. For example, the filter "*naked*" will also identify the word "snaked". If you use the filter "* naked *", the filter will only identify the word "naked".

Note You may have to use multiple filters to identify all the variations of a word or a phrase that may appear in the subject line.
