  • Sybari Antigen 7.5 for Microsoft Exchange

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to install Sybari Antigen for Microsoft Exchange in a cluster environment in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

MORE INFORMATION

Antigen recognizes Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 cluster environments. This includes active/active cluster environments. To install Antigen in a cluster environment, you have to log on to the local computer by using an account that has administrator rights. Additionally, you must install Antigen on each node. You should install all Antigen program files and scan engine files on a local drive.

Note If Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 is installed on a clustered server, you must install SQL 7.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

In all Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 cluster environments, Antigen configuration information and Antigen databases are associated with the physical node and not with the Exchange virtual server. Therefore, the following data will not replicate to all nodes during a failover or during a planned outage:
  • Scan Job settings
  • Quarantine data
  • Virus data
  • Performance statistics
  • Notifications data
  • File Scanner data

How to install Antigen in an active/passive cluster in Exchange 2000 Server and in Exchange Server 2003

Step 1: Install Antigen on the active node

  1. Start the Setup program.
  2. On the Installation Location page of the Setup wizard, click Local Installation, and then click Next.
  3. If Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) or the Microsoft Jet components are not installed, the installation program will ask if you want MDAC or the Jet components installed on the computer. If you click Yes, follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the installation. You may have to restart the server after MDAC or the Jet components are installed.

Note When the computer is restarted, the Exchange virtual servers will fail over to a node that can take ownership of the Exchange virtual server. You will have to manually move the Exchange virtual servers back to the current node before you can continue with the installation.

After MDAC or the Jet components have been installed, you will have to run the Setup program again to install Antigen.
  4. Enter the destination folder that you want to use, and then click Next.

The default destination folder is Program Files\Sybari Software\AntigenforExchange.
  5. Enter the Start menu program folder that you want to use, and then click Next.

The default Start menu program folder is named "AntigenforExchange".
  6. Review the summary of the installation options that you have selected, and then click Next.
  7. After the installation is completed, you will be prompted to restart the Exchange services.

If you want the Setup program to perform the restart operation, click Next. During the Exchange services restart operation, the Exchange virtual server is taken offline, the Exchange services are stopped, and then the Exchange virtual server is brought online again. If you want to manually perform the restart operation, click Skip.

Note Antigen will not become fully active until the Exchange services have been restarted.
  8. If files are being used during the installation, the Setup program may prompt you to restart the computer. If the Setup program prompts you to restart the computer, you do not have to do this immediately. However, certain Antigen features may not correctly work until you restart the computer.
  9. If you want all your Antigen settings to be the same on the active node and on the passive node, follow these steps.

Note You must complete these steps before you install Antigen on the passive node.
    1. Use the Antigen templates to configure the Antigen settings on the active node. For example, use the Antigen templates to configure the update schedule, file filtering, the scan options, and other Antigen settings. For more information about how to use the Antigen templates, see Chapter 11 in the Antigen User Guide.
    2. In the root directory, double-click the AntigenforExchange folder in which Antigen is installed.
    3. Copy the Templates.adb file, and then paste the file in the folder that contains the Setup files.

Step 2: Install Antigen on the passive node

When you install Antigen on the passive node, make sure to log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights. The account must have administrator rights so that Setup can perform Microsoft Windows service registration.

Note The Exchange virtual servers should still be running on the active node.
You may have to restart the computer after MDAC or the Jet components are installed.

Note When the computer is restarted, the Exchange virtual servers will fail over to a node that can take ownership of the Exchange virtual server. You will have to manually move the Exchange virtual servers back to the current node before you can continue with the installation.
  4. After MDAC or the Jet components have been installed, run the Setup program again to install Antigen.

The Setup program detects that your environment is a cluster environment and provides some recommended setup instructions.
  5. Enter the destination folder that you want to use, and then click Next.

The default destination folder is Program Files\Sybari Software\AntigenforExchange.
  6. Enter the Start menu program folder, and then click Next.

The default Start menu program folder is named "AntigenforExchange".
  7. Review the summary of the installation options that you have selected, and then click Next.
  8. When you are prompted to restart the Exchange services, click Skip.
  9. On the passive node, click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  10. Make sure that the Microsoft System Attendant is not running.
  11. Fail over the Exchange virtual server from the active node to the passive node. Antigen will not correctly run on the passive node if you do not fail over the Exchange virtual server.
  12. If files are being used during the installation, the Setup program may prompt you to restart the computer. If the Setup program prompts you to restart the computer, you do not have to do this immediately. However, certain Antigen features may not correctly work until you restart the computer.
