Microsoft Excel does not display the menu bar or the toolbar when you click the "Export to Excel" button in a report in ADP Payroll (905152)

SYMPTOMS

You may experience the following problem when you use ADP Payroll together with Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006. When you click the Export to Excel button in a report in ADP Payroll, Microsoft Excel does not display the menu bar or the toolbar.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Excel is using the default settings that import documents by using HTML.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Save the report file as an .xls file

  1. Open the report in ADP Payroll.
  2. Click the Export to Excel button.
  3. If the File Download dialog box opens, go to the next step. If the File Download dialog box does not open, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. On the File Types tab, select the XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet type, and then click Advanced.
    4. In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to select the Confirm open after download check box, and then click OK.
    5. In the Folder Options dialog box, click Close.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Select the location where you want to save the file, and then type a file name.
  6. Click Save.
  7. In Excel, click Open on the File menu, locate the file that you saved, and then open the file.

Method 2: Change the default export settings for Excel worksheets

  1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. On the File Types tab, select the XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet type, and then click Advanced.
  4. Click to clear the Browse in same window check box, and then click OK.
  5. In the Folder Options dialog box, click Close.
  6. Locate the ADP Payroll report, and then click the Export to Excel button.
  7. If the File Download dialog box opens, click Open.
