You receive an error message when you try to set the Microsoft Operations Manager Action account by using the SetActionAccount.exe command-line tool (904751)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Action account by using the SetActionAccount.exe command-line tool, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following error messages:

'"01' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

The credentials you provided could not be validated.

Usage: SetActionAccount.exe <configname> <options> -query Returns the current Action Account settings -set domain username [password] Sets the action account, setting it to the given account. Use the machine name for local accounts.
Note The SetActionAccount.exe command-line tool is located in the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 folder.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The password that you try to set has quotation marks.
  • You supply the password as part of the command line.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, supply the password when you are prompted instead of as part of the command line:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, locate the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 folder.
  3. Type the following command to use the SetActionAccount.exe command-line tool:

    SetActionAccount.exe -set domain username

  4. Press ENTER, and then type the password when you are prompted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
