SYMPTOMS

You enter a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) in the Accepted Front-end Servers box under Accepted Attachment Front-end Servers. Then, you scroll down and click OK.

Note You may have configured other settings before you click OK, but the other settings are not related to the error message that you receive.

Under the Accepted Front-end Servers box, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Field should contain a comma delimited list of servers containing only alphanumeric characters, hyphens and underscores with no white spaces.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you must enter the FQDN in the registry. To do this, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. In the Outlook Web Access Web Administration tool, remove all text from the Accepted Front-end Servers box to leave it blank.
  2. Configure the other settings, and then click OK.
  3. Close the Outlook Web Access Web Administration tool Web page.
  4. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  5. Expand the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWEB\

  6. Right-click MSExchangeWeb, point to New, and then click String Value.
  7. To name the new registry entry, type AcceptAttachmentFrontEnds, and then press ENTER.
  8. Right-click AcceptAttachmentFrontEnds, and then click Modify.
  9. Type the FQDN of the Exchange Server 2003 front-end server. You can enter the names of multiple Exchange Server 2003 front-end servers by using commas to separate the entries. For example, you can type server1.domain1.com,server2.domain1.com. The names can contain alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and underscores. However, the names cannot contain spaces.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Quit Registry Editor.
