FIX: An additional line appears at the start of the message body when you build MFC ISAPI extensions in Visual Studio .NET 2003 (903075)

SYMPTOMS

When you build Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) ISAPI extensions in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, an additional line appears at the start of the message body.

Note In a valid HTTP response message, each HTTP header is delimited by "\r\n". The "\r\n" delimiter inserts one new line. The last header is delimited by "\r\n\r\n". The "\r\n\r\n" delimiter inserts two new lines.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the MFC ISAPI extensions use the WriteClient function to delimit the headers. When you use the WriteClient function, MFC sends another carriage-return line-feed (CRLF) character to delimit the headers from the HTTP message body. This CRLF character causes an additional line to appear at the start of the message body.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the ServerSupport function instead of the WriteClient function. The ServerSupport function is available in the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) software development kit (SDK). The IIS SDK is part of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 SDK.
