The Device is in Use

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Media Center Receiver service is started. Media Center uses the Media Center Receiver service to record scheduled TV programs.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, stop and temporarily disable the Media Center Receiver service. Then, try to record video in Windows Movie Maker from an analog video camera or from a VCR.

Note If the Media Center Receiver service is not running, any TV programs that are scheduled to be recorded will not be recorded. Therefore, after you capture video in Windows Movie Maker, set the Startup type setting in the Media Center Receiver service to Automatic. Then, restart Microsoft Windows so that the Media Center Receiver service starts.

Disable the Media Center Receiver service

To disable the Media Center Receiver service, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click Media Center Receiver Service.
  3. In the Action menu, click Properties.

Enable the Media Center Receiver service

After you capture video in Windows Movie Maker, set the Startup type setting in the Media Center Receiver service to Automatic, and then restart Microsoft Windows. This enables the Media Center Receiver service.

To have the Media Center Receiver service start automatically, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click Media Center Receiver Service.
  3. In the Action menu, click Properties.
