The label for a mapped network drive is not updated in Windows Explorer after you map a new shared resource to this drive in Windows XP (900901)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario: On a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, a particular network drive is mapped to a particular shared resource. The label for this drive reflects the name of the shared resource that the drive is mapped to. After you map a new shared resource to this drive, the label for the drive is not updated in Windows Explorer. However, when you view the contents of the drive, you can see the contents of the new shared resource.

Note The new shared resource resides on the same server as the old shared resource.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, disconnect the drive from the old shared resource before you map a new shared resource to this drive. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type explorer in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Disconnect Network Drive.
  3. Select the drive that you want to disconnect, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
