INTRODUCTION

This article describes the results that you can expect when you merge customer records in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting.

MORE INFORMATION

You may have information for a customer in two records because of spelling variations or other differences. You may want to merge the two records into one record. For example, if you merge a record for Customer 1 into the record for Customer 2, you receive the following results:
  • Customer 1 is removed from the Customer List.
  • In the Customer window, all the financial history for Customer 1 is available on the Financial History tab in the Customer 2 record.
  • Transactions that were originally linked to the Customer 1 record still display Customer 1 as the customer name.
  • Outstanding invoices from the Customer 1 record display Customer 2 as the customer name in the Invoice List.
  • Outstanding sales orders for Customer 1 display Customer 2 as the customer name in the Sales Order List.
  • Outstanding quotes for Customer 1 display Customer 2 as the customer name in the Quote List.
After you merge two customer records, you cannot separate the records.

For more information about how to merge customer records, see the "Merge Customers dialog box: options and information" topic in Small Business Accounting Help.
