You may receive a "The message affected by this rule can't be sent on behalf of another user" error message when you create a server-based rule to forward an e-mail message as an attachment in Exchange Server 2003 (900089)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, you create a server-based rule to forward an e-mail message as an attachment. Then, a user sends you a signed e-mail message. In this scenario, the e-mail message is not forwarded. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
The message affected by this rule can't be sent on behalf of another user.
When signed or unsigned messages are sent to you after you receive this error message, the rule does not work. The rule works only after you re-create the rule.
