Software Update Services downloads multiple language versions of the updates for the .NET Framework and Windows SharePoint Services (899866)

SYMPTOMSThe localized versions of the updates for the Microsoft .NET Framework
and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services are downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site
to the Software Update Services (SUS) server. The download occurs despite the
operating system's locale settings. CAUSEThis issue occurs because Software Update Services (SUS) filters updates based on the
operating system locale. However, SUS cannot filter updates for other operating system
component's locales such as .NET Framework
and Windows SharePoint Services. SUS cannot filter these updates
because any localized updates for these components can run on any operating system locale.
Therefore, all language versions of the updates are synchronized for these

Windows operating system updates by the locale property that is selected for
the operating system. The updates that are synchronized from the Windows Update Web
site to the SUS server are only for those locales that are specified. For example,
only Japanese versions of updates can run on the Japanese locales.
However, the .NET Framework
and Windows SharePoint Services can run
on any operating system locale. For example, the German .NET Framework can run on an English
operating system locale.
