The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Communicator 2005
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to establish a data-sharing session through Microsoft Office Communicator 2005, you may receive the following error message: Cannot establish the data sharing session with Buddy_name, either because Buddy_name canceled the sessionor because you or the person you are calling is behind a firewall or Network Address Translator (NAT). CAUSEThis issue may occur when the computer uses an UPnPT certified Network Address Translation (NAT) device.
Typically, a single Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) port is required for data sharing through a NAT device. However, an UPnP certified NAT device requires two SIP ports to establish a data-sharing session. Communicator 2005 only uses a single SIP port for data sharing. It does not support data sharing through an UPnP certified NAT device.
