FIX: When you install a Windows Forms-based application that runs Web services and COM+ stateless server components, IIS may stop responding on Windows Server 2003 (899181)

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, high CPU utilization occurs and Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) may stop responding. You experience this problem when the following conditions are true:
  • You install a Windows Forms-based application that runs Web services and COM+ stateless server components.
  • You turn on the hyper-threading feature in the computer BIOS.
  • The application accesses an Oracle Database database or a Microsoft SQL Server database.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
