Received files are not stored on a network share in Communicator 2005 (898862)

SYMPTOMS

If you specify a network share as the location to store your received files in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005, the files are not stored on the network share.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Communicator 2005 uses a local path on the computer to store received files. This functionality enforces the privacy and the security of your received files. By default, received files are stored in the following folder when you specify a network share as the location to store received files in Communicator 2005:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\NetHood

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use Microsoft Windows Explorer to move the received files to the network share.

To specify the location in which you want to store received files in Communicator 2005, follow these steps:
  1. Start Communicator 2005.
  2. On the Actions menu, click Options.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Under File Transfer, click Browse, select the folder in which you want to store your received files, and then click OK.
