SYMPTOMS
On the following versions of Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition, you cannot correctly install security updates:
- Thai
- Malay
- Indonesian
- Brazilian Portuguese
- Hindi
Additionally, you experience other symptoms after you install a security update.
For example, if you install the security update that is described in security bulletin MS05-018, you cannot increase the screen resolution beyond 800 x 600.
Note If the current screen resolution is set to more than 800 x 600 before you install security bulletin MS05-018, the resolution will be lowered to 800 x 600.

These symptoms occur if the security fix that you try to install applies to one or more of the following files:

Explorer.exe
- Input.dll
-
Intl.cpl
- Msobmain.dll
- Win32k.sys
Any security update that was released since the MS05-018 security bulletin was released may be affected by these symptoms.
