Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • No user names are returned in the search results when you create a search scope for the People content source and use the search scope to search the portal site

    Consider the following scenario. You create a search scope for the People content source, and then perform a full update of the People content source. When you use the search scope to search the portal site for users, no search results are returned. That is, no user names appear in the search results.

    This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • You apply the hotfix package that is documented in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

      890732 Description of the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: December 4, 2004

    • Your query uses the Contains operator. The Contains operator is the default operator that is used by SharePoint Portal Server 2003 when you search the portal site.
    The hotfix package that is documented in article 890732 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base contains a regression that prevents people entries from being indexed in certain scenarios.
