Manually scheduled recordings no longer record what you expect after you upgrade the operating system to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (897094)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You manually schedule recordings in the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004-based computer. You upgrade the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004-based computer to Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The recordings that you manually scheduled may not record what you expect.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 cannot correctly map the existing generic service IDs to the newer specific service IDs. Windows XP Media Center Edition scans to discover channels for some regions that do not have access to a Program Guide. In Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 or in the earlier versions of Windows XP Media Center, Windows XP Media Center Edition assigns a generic service ID to the channels that are discovered by scanning. However, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 adds the channels that are discovered to the preset list and assigns a specific service ID to each channel. Therefore, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 cannot map the manually scheduled programs from the older channel to the correct channel after the upgrade.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, delete the incorrectly scheduled recordings, and then reschedule the recordings to the correct channel.
