You may have to wait five minutes or longer for Media Center Extender to connect to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (897088)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Media Center Extender for Windows XP Media Center
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
SYMPTOMSYou try to connect Microsoft Media Center Extender for
Windows XP Media Center to a
Media Center PC that is running Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005. In this scenario,
the "connecting" message may remain on the screen for more than five
minutes.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- You are using a wireless home network.
- An Xbox console connects to the network by using its Xbox
wireless network adaptor.
In this scenario, the adaptor sends Internet Control Message
Protocol (ICMP) "host response not reachable" packets. When the Media Center
Remote Device (MCRD) service receives these ICMP packets, the MCRD service
resets the discovery and provisioning processes. This
reset operation may take five minutes or longer. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, disconnect the Xbox wireless network
adaptor from the network
before you connect Media Center Extender to the Media Center PC.
