The SMS 2003 Administrator Console shows a package status as "Install Pending" even when the package files are installed on the distribution point (897074)

SYMPTOMS

You have added a new package to a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 distribution point. However, the SMS Administrator Console shows the package status as Install Pending. The behavior occurs even when the package files are successfully installed on the SMS distribution point.

CAUSE

This problem typically occurs when you have more than one primary site in the SMS hierarchy. In this case, the SMS Distribution Manager may incorrectly change the status of the PkgStatus table in the SMS database.

RESOLUTION

Note After you install the latest service pack for SMS 2003 or after you install hotfix 897074, you may still experience the problem that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. In this case, we recommend that you install one of the following hotfixes, which supercede hotfix 897074:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
This hotfix does not correct the status of packages that are already affected by this problem. To fix an existing package that is experiencing this problem, use the SMS Administrator Console to update the package status after you install this hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Use an account that has administrative credentials to log on to a computer that is running the SMS Administrator Console.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
  3. Expand Site Database (SiteCode-SiteName), expand Packages, right-click the package that you want to update, click All Tasks, and then click Manage Distribution Points.
  4. In the Welcome to the Manage Distribution Points Wizard dialog box, click Next.
  5. On the Manage Distribution Points page, click Refresh the package on selected distribution points, and then click Next.
  6. On the Refresh Package page, click to select the check box next to the distribution point server that you want, click Next, and then click Finish.
