This article describes the Microsoft Office Visio 2003 issue that is fixed in the Visio 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated May 9, 2005.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you try to start Visio 2003, you may receive the following error message:
    Microsoft Visio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    To see what data this error report contains, click here.
    When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature:
       Application name  Application version  Module name  Module version  Offset
       ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
       Visio.exe          11.0.3216.0         Omfcu.dl     11.0.5510.0     0005148e
    

    If you restart Visio 2003 after you receive this error message, Visio 2003 may unexpectedly quit or may crash.

    This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
    • You installed a user-created template.
    • There is another template with the same file name as the user-created template in the template path for Visio 2003.

Prerequisites

The following list contains prerequisites for the hotfix package:
  • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Visio 2003 with Microsoft Office Visio 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed or on a computer that is running Visio 2003 without Visio 2003 SP1 installed.

    However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on a computer that is running Visio 2003 with Visio 2003 SP1 installed than we have on a computer that is running Visio 2003 without Visio 2003 SP1 installed. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Visio 2003 without Visio 2003 SP1 installed, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
