SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, a rule may not work if the following conditions are true:
  • You create the rule on a client in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 domain.
  • The rule applies to senders who are in the global address list.
For example, this problem may occur when you create a rule that moves a message to a folder if the sender is in the global address list. In this scenario, a message may not be moved to the folder as you expect.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the following hotfix to the domain controller.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
