topMORE INFORMATION
This hotfix updates
the
BULK INSERT statement to detect NULL inserts for column data types INT,
SMALLINT, and BIGINT from a character mode import file. When a NULL insert
occurs, you will now receive an error message that is similar to the
following:
Server: Msg 4869, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk Insert failed. Unexpected NULL value in data file row 3, column 1.
Destination column (ColA) is defined NOT NULL. The statement has been
terminated.
Note NULL insert attempts in columns that are defined as NOT NULL cause the
termination of the command and the rollback of the pending rows in the
batch.
Additionally, the
BULK INSERT statement has been updated to match the behavior of the BCP
utility when the statement parses signed integer data types that contain SPACE characters between the
sign and the data value. For example, when you try to import the column value
of "- 2", the
BULK INSERT statement in versions earlier than this hotfix (8.00.1017)
inserted a value of -2 and the BCP utility would flag a data conversion error.
With this hotfix, the
BULK INSERT statement behavior is now the same as the BCP utility behavior.
Therefore, when you run the
BULK INSERT statement on a column value
of "- 2", you will now receive an error message that is
similar to the following:
Server: Msg 4864, Level 16,
State 1, Line 1 Bulk insert data conversion error (type mismatch) for row 6,
column 1 (ColA).
