SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message when you try to upload data by using the Microsoft MapPoint Web Service Customer Data Service API:
The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship with remote server. Upload job has failed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the computer that you are using to upload the data file is not trusted by the MapPoint Web Service Customer Services site (CSS). The computer is not trusted because a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate for the CSS is not detected in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store on the computer.

Typically, this problem occurs when the computer has never connected to the CSS.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the SSL certificate for the CSS. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the computer that you want to use to upload data, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. When you are prompted for your CSS credentials, type your CSS credentials.
  3. When you are prompted to accept the SSL certificate for the CSS, accept the SSL certificate.
When the SSL certificate for the CSS is on your computer, you can successfully use the Customer Data Service API.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
