You receive an error message from a C# application that uses the Microsoft OLE DB provider for DB2 in Host Integration Server 2000 SP1 after you upgrade to IBM AS/400 V5R3 (895255)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to IBM AS/400 V5R3, you may receive the following error message from a C# application that uses the Microsoft OLE DB provider for DB2 (DB2OLEDB) in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1):
EXCEPTION TYPE:
Exception of type System.Web.HttpUnhandledException was thrown.
ERROR MESSAGE: The data value could not be converted for reasons other than sign mismatch or data overflow. For example, the data was corrupted in the data store but the row was still retrievable.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because one of the following conditions is true:
  • The AS/400 host system returns invalid CCSIDs to the data provider.

  • The metadata is not correctly initialized by the Type overrides that are contained in the Late Descriptor property.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Host Integration Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
