SYMPTOMSNote Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
Consider the following scenario.
You enable the Solicited Remote Assistance policy by using the Group Policy
Object Editor (Gpedit.msc) tool. Then, you click to clear the Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer check box on the Remote tab in the Systems Properties dialog box. In this scenario, the Ask for Remote Assistance option does not appear on the Actions menu in Microsoft Windows Messenger.CAUSEThe problem occurs because Microsoft Windows Messenger version 5.1.0639 and earlier versions do not let you start a remote assistance session if the Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer check box is not checked. This behavior occurs even if the Solicited Remote Assistance policy is enabled because Windows Messenger does not follow the Group Policy setting for remote assistance as expected.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, install Microsoft Windows Messenger version 5.1.0700. To install Windows Messenger version 5.1.0700, visit the following Microsoft Web site: STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
