You cannot type special French characters after you install the Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition keyboard or the Internet Keyboard (894514)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft Internet keyboard or the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition, you cannot type French special characters such as é or ç.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, change the Regional and Language Options settings in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type intl.cpl, and then click OK to open the Regional and Languages Options dialog box.
  2. Set the default input language to French. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the Languages tab, click Details.
    2. In the Installed services area, click Add.
    3. In the Input language list, click French (YourCountry).
    4. Click to select the Keyboard layout/IME check box, click French from the list of keyboard layouts, and then click OK.
    5. Under Default input language, click French (YourCountry), where YourCountry is the geographical version of French that you want to use, and then click Apply.
  3. Set the keyboard shortcut settings for switching to French. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Text Services and Input Languages dialog box, click Key Settings.
    2. In the Advanced Key Settings dialog box, click Switch to French, and then click Change Key Sequence.
    3. In the Change Key Sequence dialog box, click to select the Enable Key Sequence check box. Set the keyboard shortcut that you want to use to switch to French, and then click OK three times.
  4. Set French as the language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs that you want to use. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    2. In the Language for non-Unicode programs list, click French (YourCountry), and then click OK.
    3. Restart your computer.
