An invitation to an audio or video conversation or a file transfer request does not time out in a client program that is connected to Live Communications Server 2005 (894297)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • "User A" is enabled for Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and sends an invitation for an audio or a video conversation to "User B." User B is also enabled for Live Communications.
  • User B receives this invitation, but User B does not accept the invitation to start an audio or a video conversation.
  • User A does not cancel the invitation to User B, or the invitation to User B is lost.
In this scenario, the invitation remains active in User B's real-time communications client program. However, you may expect this invitation to time out in User B's real-time communications client program.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Live Communications Server 2005 does not generate a CANCEL request when an INVITE request for an audio or video conversation times out. Additionally, this problem occurs when a file transfer request times out.

Note A time-out for an audio, video, or file transfer request may occur for any one or more of the following reasons:
  • The invitation message is lost.
  • The invitation sender or an intermediate server that exists between the invitation sender and the recipient does not cancel the invitation request before the request times out.
  • The invitation sender's real-time communication session quits before the sender can cancel the invitation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, the recipient of the audio, video, or file transfer request must cancel the incoming request.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
