SYMPTOMS

When you press the NUM LOCK key, the CAPS LOCK key, or the F LOCK (function lock) key on a Microsoft wireless keyboard, no status lights appear on the wireless keyboard to verify the whether the key is on or off.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because both the wireless keyboard and the wireless mouse rely on AA alkaline batteries for power. To preserve battery life, you can find the status lights on the wireless receiver.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

When you press the NUM LOCK key, the CAPS LOCK key, or the F LOCK key, the associated status lights on the wireless receiver turn on or off.
