The minimum payment that appears in the Debt Reduction Planner is different from the amount that you type for the minimum payment in Money (894023)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Debt Reduction Planner in Microsoft Money, the amount that you type for the minimum payment is different from the amount that appears in the Debt Reduction Planner.

For example, you may type 50 for the minimum payment amount. However, the Debt Reduction Planner shows 150 as the amount.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Money data account file is damaged, or if the Debt Reduction Planner is damaged.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Money 2005

To resolve this issue in Money 2005, follow these steps:
  1. Start Money 2005, and then click Settings on the Tools menu.
  2. Click Planner Options, and then click Reset Debt Plan.
  3. Click OK, and then quit Money 2005.
  4. Click File, click Repair Money File, and then click Quick File Repair.
  5. When you are finished, click Banking, and then click Account List.
  6. Click the name of an account, and then click Change Account Settings.
  7. Click Change Credit Details, if it exists. If Change Credit Details does not exist, view the next account in the list.
  8. Verify that the minimum payment is correct. If the minimum payment is not correct, follow these steps:
    1. Click the minimum payment amount.
    2. In the Minimum payment rate box, type the percentage that you want to use.
    3. In the Minimum amount box, type the minimum amount that you want to use, and then click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each account.
  10. Click Planning, click Planning Tools, and then click Debt Reduction Planner.
  11. Follow the directions that appear on the Debt Reduction Planner pages to add an account. On the Define your payment plan page, verify that the following settings are correct:
    1. In the Enter your monthly allocation for debt, starting on Date area, verify that the amount in the box is equal to the amount in the (Minimum amount is Amount) area.
    2. In the Making a One-time, Extra Payment area, verify that the amount in the box is 0.
  12. Finish steps in the wizard.
  13. Repeat steps 10 through 13 for each account that you want to add to the Debt Reduction Planner.
  14. Click Bills.
  15. On the Bills Summary page, verify that the amount of each scheduled bill that is listed matches the minimum payment for the corresponding account that you added to the Debt Reduction Planner.

Microsoft Money 2004

To resolve this issue in Money 2004, follow these steps:
  1. Start Money 2004, and then click Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Planner tab, and then click Reset Debt Plan.
  3. Click OK, and then quit Money 2004.
  4. Click File, click Repair Money File, and then click Quick File Repair.
  5. When you are finished click Account List.
  6. Click the name of an account, and then click Change account details.
  7. Click Change Credit Details, if it exists. If Change Credit Details does not exist, view the next account in the list.
  8. Verify that the minimum payment is correct. If the minimum payment is not correct, follow these steps:
    1. Click the minimum payment amount.
    2. In the Minimum payment rate box, type the percentage that you want to use.
    3. In the Minimum amount box, type the minimum amount that you want to use, and then click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each account.
  10. Click Planner, and then click Debt Reduction Planner.
  11. Follow the directions that appear on the Debt Reduction Planner pages to add an account. On the Define your payment plan page, verify that the following settings are correct:
    1. In the Enter your monthly allocation for debt, starting on Date area, verify that the amount in the box is equal to the amount in the (Minimum amount is Amount) area.
    2. In the Making a One-time, Extra Payment area, verify that the amount in the box is 0.
  12. Finish steps in the wizard.
  13. Repeat steps 10 through 13 for each account that you want to add to the Debt Reduction Planner.
  14. Click Bills and Deposits.
  15. On the Manage scheduled bills and deposits page, verify that the amount of each scheduled bill that is listed matches the minimum payment for the corresponding account that you added to the Debt Reduction Planner.
The Debt Reduction Planner now shows the correct amount for the minimum payment.

Note The Debt Reduction Planner pays down the highest interest account first.
