SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade Microsoft Money 2000 to Microsoft Money 2003 or to a later version of Microsoft Money, when you start Money you may receive one of the following error messages:
The Activation.exe file is linked to missing export Mnysl.dll.
Activation.exe entry point not found.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if a registry subkey that was used by Money 2000 was not removed during the upgrade to Money 2003 or to a later version of Money.

RESOLUTION

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, remove the MoneyStartUp10.0 subkey from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

  3. Right-click MoneyStartUp10.0, and then click Delete.
  4. In the Confirm Key Delete dialog box, click OK.
  5. Quit Registry Editor.
