BUG: Windows Media Player only plays the first item in the playlist when you embed an ActiveX control in a Web page and you set the Autostart parameter to false (891772)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 10

SYMPTOMS

When you embed a Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control in a Web page and set the Autostart parameter to false, the player only plays the first item in the playlist from the host server if you have Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series installed.

CAUSE

Windows Media Player 9 Series uses a shim to translate the Windows Media Player 6.4 object model into the native Windows Media Player 9 Series object model. This problem occurs because of a problem in the translation of the Autostart parameter between these two object models.

WORKAROUND

We recommended that you use the Windows Media Player 9 ActiveX control (CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6) instead of the older Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control. If this is not possible, do not set the Autostart parameter to false.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
