The document list control may take a long time to populate when you open or save a file on a Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC device (891668)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC
  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition software for Pocket PC

SYMPTOMS

When you open or save a file in a Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC device, the document list control (the DocList window) may take a long time to populate when many documents are in the My Documents folder and the subfolders of the My Documents folder.

For example, if you have more than 300 Microsoft Pocket Word files in the My Documents folder and then you start Pocket Word, it may take a long time for the document list control to display the files.

Note The time that is required to populate the document list control may vary depending on the storage device that is used. For example, storing the document files in main memory is typically much faster than storing files on an external storage card.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is a performance problem with the document list control.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, arrange the storage of your documents outside the My Documents folder and the subfolders of My Documents. Also, make sure that you do not have a file that is named "Ignore_my_docs" in the root folder of any storage cards that you may be using.

To open files that are located in other folders, you can use File Explorer to locate the folder that contains the document. Then, tap the file to open it.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
