The Automated Deployment Services deployment agent does not support Storage Area Network and Host Bus Adaptor drives (891374)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Automated Deployment Services

SYMPTOMS

If you start the ADS deployment agent with a Storage Area Network (SAN) and Host Bus Adaptor (HBA) drive, the SAN disk is missing from the list of drives that are enumerated.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Automated Deployment Services (ADS) is designed for deploying Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 images on servers that have direct attached storage, but that do not have an operating system. The Deployment Agent Builder service is a component of ADS, and this service constructs deployment agent images during operating system deployment. However, the Deployment Agent Builder service does not load SAN and HBA drives. SAN and HBA PCI devices and many other PCI device types are excluded by the Deployment Agent Builder service.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
