SYMPTOMS

When you reinstall a Microsoft Office 2003 update or run the Detect and Repair option in Office 2003, you are prompted to provide the original install source files.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions occur in the order that they are listed in:
  • You use the Local Installation Source feature to store install source files for Office 2003 locally in the MSOCache folder.
  • You install an Office 2003 update.
  • The Office 2003 update installation is canceled or is unsuccessful.
  • You reinstall the Office 2003 update or run the Detect and Repair option.
If the Office 2003 update installation is canceled or is unsuccessful when you install the update for the first time, the installation process rolls back the changes and removes all the Office 2003 update-related files from the computer. When the files are being removed, the rollback mechanism incorrectly determines that the files in the MSOCache folder are also related to the Office 2003 update and removes them.

RESOLUTION
