FIX: The wrong form may open in Visual Studio 2005 when you use the MdiParent.ActiveMdiChild.Name property in the .NET Framework 1.1 (890834)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, when you try to open a form in a Multiple Document Interface (MDI) application, the wrong form may open.

You encounter this problem when you use the MdiParent.ActiveMdiChild.Name property and the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. This problem occurs even though the Application.DoEvents method correctly enables the form.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the MdiParent.ActiveMdiChild.Name property uses a cached value that is incorrect. The MdiParent.ActiveMdiChild.Name property updates the cache when the property enables a new MDI child form. However, the MdiParent.ActiveMdiChild.Name property resets the cache before the property can enable the next child form by sending a message to the MDI client window.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
