MORE INFORMATION

Creating indexes for content that is stored on a computer that is running Windows Storage Server 2003 is supported in SharePoint Portal Server 2003. Therefore, you can use SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to crawl, to index, and to search for data that is stored on a computer that is running Windows Storage Server 2003.

Consider the following point when you use SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to index Windows Storage Server 2003 content:
  • To crawl content that is stored on a Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) share, you have to add the individual shares that are published to the DFS path as content sources.

For example, Share1 and Share2 are published to a DFS root that is named DFSShare.
To crawl the content that is in the \\ServerName\DFSShare path, you have to add the following two content sources in SharePoint Portal Server 2003:
  • \\ServerName\DFSShare\Share1
  • \\ServerName\DFSShare\Share2
