INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Office 2003 issue that is fixed in the Office 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated December 7, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • If you check the spelling of a Dutch word that contains a superfluous hyphen in Microsoft Office Word 2003, the word may be flagged as incorrect. If you then click Change All, the spelling checker may cause Word 2003 to stop responding (hang).

    If you press the ESC key when Word 2003 stops responding, the spelling checker may prompt you to continue checking the document. This may not restore Word 2003 in all circumstances. You may have to use Task Manager to close Word 2003. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
    2. Click Task Manager.
    3. Click the Applications tab.
    4. Click Microsoft Word in the Task list.
    5. Click End Task.

  • The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed or on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed.

    However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Office 2003 SP1 installed than we have on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 without Office 2003 SP1 installed, some file conflicts may occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend it.
