You receive a "The call cannot be completed" error message or a "Your call did not go through" error message when you try to make a PC-to-Phone call in Live Communications Server 2005 (890298)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you try to make a PC-to-Phone call in Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005, the call is not successful, and you receive one of the following error messages:
The call cannot be completed.
Your call did not go through. Please try your call again later.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Live Communications Server topology uses a dedicated public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateway host server for routing PC-to-phone calls, and the static route to the dedicated PSTN host is configured incorrectly. For example, this problem may occur if Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is specified as the transport protocol in a static route, or if an IP address is specified as the next hop in a static route.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, modify the entries in the Add Static Route dialog box on your server. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Live Communications Server 2005.
  2. Expand the node for your forest, expand the Domains node, expand the node for your domain, expand the node for the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your server, and then expand the Live Communications servers and pools node.
  3. Locate the node for the pool that has your non-PSTN gateway host server, right-click your Live Communications Server, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Routing tab, click the static route, and then click Edit.
  5. Under Next hop, click Network address, and then type the fully qualified domain name of the next hop.
  6. In the Transport list, click TLS, and then click OK.
Note When you specify an IP address as the next hop, Transport Layer Security (TLS) cannot be used as the transport.
