The Svchost.exe process may leak memory after you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on a computer that is running Terminal Services (890188)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows Service Pack 4 (SP4) on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, the Svchost.exe process that hosts the Network Connections service may leak memory when the computer runs Terminal Services. This memory leak may increase as Terminal Services clients log on and log off Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions.

You can use the Tlist utility to view a list of services that are running in Svchost.exe. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Extract the Tlist.exe utility from the Support.cab file in the Support\Tools folder on the Windows 2000 installation CD.
  2. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrative permissions.
  3. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  4. At the command prompt, switch to the folder where you extracted the Tlist.exe utility.
  5. Type tlist -s.

    Note Tlist.exe displays a list of active processes. The -s switch shows the list of active services in each process. For more information about the process, type tlist pid.
