PRLAN9209: Possible Permission Loss when Using Replicator (89434)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1
This article was previously published under Q89434 SUMMARY
PROBLEM ID: PRLAN9209001
SYMPTOMS
File permissions can be lost when the files are imported by the
Replicator Service. This occurs only on HPFS386 machines. Machines
running HPFS286 or FAT are unaffected.
CAUSE
If a directory tree is to be replicated and there are permissions
on the individual files but not on the parent directory, all
permissions will be lost. This only happens if there are no ACLs on
the parent directory, and the file system is HPFS386.
RESOLUTION
The System Administrator must ensure that ACLs are on all parent
directories being exported.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager 2.1. We
are researching this problem and will post new information here as
it becomes available.
