You receive a "There are no available home servers or you don't have credentials to view them" error message when you try to enable one or more users for Live Communications in Live Communications Server 2003 (889939)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to enable one or more users for Live Communications in Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003, you receive the following error message:
There are no available home servers or you don't have credentials to view them. Please try again after you login with proper credentials or you install at least one Live Communications Server.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the name of the Live Communications Server 2003 computer on the home server contains a nonstandard character, such as an underscore character (_). The home server only accepts computer names that contain one or more of the following characters:
  • Alphanumeric characters (A through Z and 0 through 9)
  • Periods (.)
  • Dashes (-)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the Live Communications Server 2003 computer from the home server.
  2. Appropriately rename the computer.
  3. Reinstall the Live Communications Server 2003 computer.
