An "E_NOINTERFACE" error occurs when you call the get_CurrentPosition() method in the Windows Media Player 10 ActiveX control (889858)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 ActiveX control, and you call the get_CurrentPosition() method from the IWMPControl interface, you may sometimes receive an "E_NOINTERFACE" error.

CAUSE

This error may occur if the get_CurrentPosition() method is called when the underlying filter graph is in the process of shutting down.

RESOLUTION

Apply this hotfix to avoid this error. A value of 0 will be returned instead of the error.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next release that contains this hotfix.
