You can install Virtual PC 2004 in place of Virtual PC Service Pack 1 (889513)

SYMPTOMS

You can successfully install Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 on a computer that has Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. Virtual PC 2004 replaces Virtual PC 2004 SP1, and you do not receive a warning message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Virtual PC 2004 Setup program does not detect that there is a newer version of Virtual PC 2004 installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must reinstall Virtual PC 2004 SP1 or a later version.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
