The keyboard may become unresponsive while the Windows XP Out Of Box Experience is running (888578)

SYMPTOMS
When you first start your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, while the Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) Wizard is running, if you press F1 to display Help, and then you press ALT, you find that the Out Of Box Experience Wizard stops responding to input from the keyboard. You cannot use the keyboard to access any screen elements.
CAUSE
The problem occurs because when you press F1 to display Help, and then you press ALT, focus is removed from the Out Of Box Experience Wizard.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods to return focus to the Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) Wizard:
- Click the question mark (?) button, and then click Hide.
- Use the mouse to access the screen elements.
- Press ALT+TAB, and then use the keyboard to access the screen elements.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
