FIX: An IndexOutOfRangeException exception may occur when you delete a row in a DataGrid control in the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (888312)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You create a Windows Forms application in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft Windows Forms application contains a DataGrid control.
  • The DataGrid control contains a data source.
  • The data source adds two columns. The AllowDBNull property for the second column is set to false.
Then, you compile the application, run the application, and take the following steps:
  1. Type data into the two columns in the first row.
  2. Type data into the first column in the second row.
  3. Click the row header in the first row. After you do this, you receive the following error message:
Column 'Column_Name' does not allow nulls. Do you want to correct the value?
Note Column_Name represents the name of the column.
  4. Click Yes. Notice that the first row is selected.
In this scenario, when you press DELETE, the following problems occur:
  • A red X appears in the DataGrid control. Additionally, the data that you typed in all the columns is cleared.
  • An IndexOutOfRangeException exception occurs.
