The results in the timesheet or in the database may be inaccurate when you type fractions of time as time-phased data in Microsoft Project Server 2003 (888112)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Project Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Project Web Access timesheet in Microsoft Project Server 2003, you may experience the following symptom. When you type fractions of worktime as time-phased data in the Actual Work column or in the Actual Overtime Work column in a Project Web Access timesheet, the results that appear in the timesheet and the results that are stored in the database may be inaccurate.

For example, if you type 0.125d in the Actual Work column, the value "1.04" appears in the timesheet instead of the value "1." The value 1.04 stands for 1.04 hours. The value 1.04 is also stored in the database.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the number that you type is rounded to two digits.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the Microsoft Project Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 (SP1) hotfix that is dated November 4, 2004. The method for storing work durations has changed from two digits to four digits for time-phased actuals. Actual work and actual overtime work are typed in the right pane of the timesheet.

Note Even after you install the hotfix, the numbers still appear as two-digit numbers. However, the numbers are stored, rounded, and used as four-digit numbers. For example, if you type 0.125d, you see 0.13d if you are displaying time in days. You see 1h instead of 1.04h if you are displaying time in hours.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Microsoft Project Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 Hotfix Package that is dated November 4, 2004. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

888300 Description of the Microsoft Project Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: November 4, 2004

Note This hotfix applies only to time-phased work that is typed in in the Actual Work column and in the Actual Overtime Work column in the right pane of the timesheet. Work that is typed in the Remaining Work column and in the Actual Work column in the left pane of the timesheet is still rounded to two digits.
