The In-Reply-To field and the References field are removed from the SMTP headers of any existing messages in a mailbox when you move the mailbox from one mailbox store to another mailbox store in Exchange Server 2003 (887169)

SYMPTOMS

When you move a mailbox from one mailbox store to another mailbox store in Exchange Server 2003, the In-Reply-To field and the References field are removed from the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) headers of any existing messages in the mailbox.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the move mailbox operation does not retain the In-Reply-To field and the References field when the conversion from Internet format to MAPI format occurs.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
