You may experience inconsistent search results after you configure MAPI restrictions on public folder content in Exchange 2000 Server (885857)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, if you configure a custom MAPI program to create restrictions on public folder content, you may experience inconsistent results when you perform a search in that public folder.

For example, consider the following scenario: You configure a custom MAPI program to configure the following restriction on the content of a public folder:
resAND
            resBitmask
                        field: PR_MESSAGE_FLAGS
                        mask: MSGFLAGS_READ
                        Op: BMR_EQZ
            resContent
                        field: CustomNamedProperty
                        value: "false"
                        ignoreCase: true
In this scenario, the results of this restriction are valid if a Slow Search is used to search the public folder content. However, if a search that uses the Query Processor (QP) algorithm is used, the results of this restriction may miss some items.

Note The Query Processor algorithm is used if you sort the public folder content on the CustomNamedProperty in Outlook.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Exchange 2000 does not use the per-user read information correctly in the scenario where a Query Processor search is performed.
