Other users cannot run Microsoft Plus! on a Windows XP Home Edition-based computer (885181)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP on your Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition-based computer and another user tries to access Microsoft Plus!, the other user receives the following error message:
Error:
Microsoft Plus!: You must accept the end user license agreement to use Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Microsoft Plus! installs as a single-user program. Other users on your Windows XP Home Edition-based computer cannot access Microsoft Plus!.

WORKAROUND

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To work around this problem, modify the user permissions for the Microsoft Plus! registry subkey in the Windows Registry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Plus!

  3. Right-click Plus!, and then click Permissions.
  4. Click to select the Allow check box for Full Control.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
