When you undock your portable computer, it may not resume from standby (885049)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Start and then click Undock, and then you remove your portable computer from your docking station or from your port replicator, your computer may not resume from standby.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you undock your portable computer while the battery is very low.

When you undock your portable computer, the computer is put on standby so that the computer can re-enumerate the hardware when it restarts. However, if the computer's battery is very low, the computer may not have enough power to resume from standby, and the computer may shut down.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • If you must undock the computer when the battery power is very low, shut down the computer before you undock. To do this, click Start, and then click Shut Down. Click Shut down in the Shut Down Windows box, and then click OK.
  • Wait until the battery is charged before you undock the computer.
